Provincial Nominee Program
If you have the education, skills or work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory, you can apply for a nomination from that province or territory to immigrate there.
Each province and territory targets different skills types to fulfill their labour needs. Examples of different steams include: entrepreneurs, physicians, pharmacists, transport truck drivers, farmers and many more. You can find the links to each provincial/territorial nominee programs here.
This program is part of the Express Entry process, and can take one of two routes:
1 – You can contact your province or territory of interest and apply for a nomination. If you secure the nomination, you create an Express Entry profile which demonstrates the fact that you have been nominated.
OR
2 – You create an Express Entry profile and, within that, identify which provinces and territories you are interested in immigrating to. If accepted, you will receive a “notification of interest” from the province/territory. Once you accept that, it will be noted on your Express Entry profile.
No matter what route you take, you still go through the Express Entry pool. However, once you have been nominated by a province or territory, your ranking within the pool increases by 600 points. Keep in mind that the average Express Entry score is around 400-500, and the cut-off usually ranges around 450.
Processing times for these applications can vary significantly, but you can obtain an estimate from the Government of Canada here. Some cases are more complex than others and need more time or information to process, especially if anything changes during your application, such as medical status, new dependants, or a marriage.
